Remarkable Richmond

Things to see and do in our little village

Like all small Karoo towns, Richmond has a certain charm that grows on you.  It is fast becoming the prefferred overnight stop between Gauteng and Cape Town, with many travelling families and couples forgoing the traditional halfway stop towns of Beaufort West and Colesburg.

Perhaps this is because of the one-of-a-kind attractions that our little village offers?

Driving through town, you may find a few art exhibits in random places.  These installations are curated by the world famous Modern Arts Project SA.  This institution was founded by Harry Siertsema, of Harrie's Pancakes fame for those of you who have been to Dullstroom or Sabie.  The Gallery, on the corner of Loop and Plein Street, has the most impressive display of art, carefully curated by Harrie and his team.

There are often special exhibits brought to Richmond, as well as teams of artists from around the world who base themselves in our town for training and inspiration.

Guesthouse Rooms in Richmond at The Richmond Karoo Small Hotel

saddle horse museum

Housed in what was once the public school and boarding house, this museum is one of only two museums dedicated to the Saddle  Horse Breed in the world.  The other museum is in Kentucky, USA.  The museum has some amazing displays of not only Saddle Horse history, but also of Victoriana showing how the original residents of Richmond lived, dressed and farmed.

A new section has just opened with an inspiring display of historical movie related items - old projectors, film reels, and posters. Truly inspiring to see.
